GSES Awards

This morning we had awards for students in grades 5 and 6 at GSES.  Riley had mentioned that she didn't think she'd get any.  I knew of one award as I had seen it, but didn't say anything to her.  We talked last night about how there were a lot of students who could get awards and that even if she didn't get one, it was fine.  We knew how hard she had worked all year and she should be proud of all that she had accomplished.

It turns out that she had nothing to worry about.  Being that she's so incredibly thoughtful and such a hard worker at all that she does, she was called up to receive several awards:  Social Studies, Language Arts, Spanish.

The most important award that she received was the Citizenship Award.  It is given to 3 boys and 3 girls in each grade for students who are involved in service, kindness towards peers, and leadership (among other qualities).  I am so proud of Riley for earning this award.  One of the teachers afterwards shared that she thought every teacher had Riley on their minds for this award as she's so thoughtful and hard working.

While receiving each award, Riley turned to the students next to her and congratulated them - every single time.  Loved seeing her genuine joy and sincerity.

I was able to give her a quick kiss on the cheek and a huge hug to let her know how proud of her I am.  So thankful for such an amazing girl and for teachers who recognize her kindness and hard work.
