Riley's Knee
The past few years Riley's knee has bothered her when she runs. At times it's popped out or just felt loose. We attributed it to her growing quickly in 6th/7th grade. As rowing has continued, her knee has begun to hurt and not feeling right. She's been going to the trainer and icing it with this special knee thing during lunch every day. But now she's at a point where she can't make it through a full workout for rowing because it hurts.
On Monday I took her to a chiropractic office that also does physical training for knees and looks at joints. She had acoustic wave therapy done on the back of her knee. It's like this gun that shoots high-peak acoustic pressure waves into injured tissue. It ticks repeatedly and the dr rubbed it up and down the area. Riley giggled constantly. It was so funny. The dr said most patients cry because it does get painful, but Riley just laughed the entire time it was going on. They also took x-rays, but couldn't see much because her pain points are the meniscus, ACL, PCL, and MCL. Ligaments mostly.
Tuesday we went back and she got a knee brace.
Today (Thursday) we went to the MRI center to have an MRI done on the knee. Took 30 minutes. We'll go back on Tuesday afternoon next week to find out what they can see in the photos taken and in the MRI itself.
Riley has handled this SO great so far. We're assuming surgery is ahead. And if not, then that's fantastic. She just wants to have it whatever needs to be done so she can begin rowing again and feeling right.
