COVID-19 Day 3 Online Learning and Teaching (and Jeremy's birthday!!)
Today we fell into a better groove. Go figure - it's day two and the first day is behind us. Both girls are loving being able to sleep in. Even I'm with them on that. Instead of a 5:15am wake-up time, I am waking up at 7am while still having time to eat breakfast, pray and do my devotional, and get things set before my advisory Zoom call. Riley's waking up at 7:30am and Julia has been sleeping until around 8am. Compared to their usual time of a 6am wake-up, this has felt great. Now if only we could all sleep better! So much going on in our heads so it's been difficult to sleep. But thankful for the potential of more time to sleep.
We were able to juggle the Zoom call schedule. I had one at 8:15, Julia had one at 10:30, and Riley had one at 1:00. Trying to keep alarms going so that we know what time it is. Julia made a list of all of her assignments with checkboxes next to each one. It was about noon and she was still working hard at the kitchen table. I told her she could take a break, have lunch, and come back to her work. She insisted that she wanted to be finished by 1pm so that she could have downtime in a big chunk. And that's what she did. We ended up eating lunch at 1pm.
Riley had a better time of organizing her day today. She and I went through her assignments together. She didn't want to do any of them and wanted to just relax, but I asked her a few questions: what is your easiest assignment? what is your hardest? what will take you the most time? From there I told her to start with math (based on the fact that there seemed to be more to do in that subject and she had the time to do it now before distractions came). She did a great job on her work and turned it in.
Julia has been adamant about going for a bike ride because that was what the PE teacher shared with them that they could do. This has made it so nice! The weather was gorgeous today. The girls and I rode our usual route to school and back (4.5 miles). It was fairly empty on the trail which was nice.
When we got home Julia pulled out the chalk so that we could write birthday messages for Jeremy on the driveway and sidewalk. Riley found the sweetest quote online and wrote in a calligraphy-style writing that was just beautiful. Julia wrote 'Conora Party 2' and 'Happy birthday dad 45 Your awsome.' Jeremy enjoyed reading them when he got home.
For dinner we used a gift card that my advisory had given us during the last few days. Jeremy picked up food from Mi Cocina and we all devoured it. It was SO good!! Then Jeremy opened cards from us, his dad, and Kathryn. Julia's card was homemade and she kept saying today that she needed time to make it. She taped together green and white papers and then wrote:
Hope its a great one! Happy 45 Birthday. Only 5 more years till your half of 100. I wish you a long and happy life. you may be turning 45 today but I have faith you will live longer than anyone here. Have a great b-day! We Hope you will count your blessings and see How lucky you are! We love you - Julia, Jess, Riley
She signed our names at the bottom. So sweet.
