Sky Ranch - Julia

Julia had her first week at overnight camp at Sky Ranch in Van, Texas.  It was a fairly last minute thing as we'd gone back and forth on whether to do it the first week of summer with friends or by herself later in the summer.  Turned out that the first week was the perfect timing and she loved being with her friends Ellis and Yvie.

All four of us dropped her off on Sunday afternoon around 3:30pm.  The chocolate chip cookies were beyond delicious!  We each ate one and said we'd come back to the camp just for the cookie.  It was amazing as we drove through the entrance and were greeted by what seemed to be hundreds of camp counselors and workers.  They were all greeting us and yelling 'Welcome to camp!'  One of the leaders had what appeared to be sweat all over his pants and around the bottom of his butt.  Julia thought this was hilarious.  With all the attention from the counselors, Julia was a bit overwhelmed, but handled it great.

Her assigned cabin was Cabin 5 - Little House.  She had four counselors - Caroline, Joselyn, Leah, and Halee.  Her small group leader was Joselyn.  Halee was really great at doing dutch and french braids so several of the days we noticed that Julia's hair was done beautifully in one of these styles.  They were really nice.

Julia was assigned the bottom bunk and her bunk partner's name was Hannah.  She said it was hard to sleep through the night because every time Hannah shifted, the bed shook which woke her up.  Thankfully they had time during the day called Regroup where the girls could rest and Julia took advantage of that time to take naps a few days.

Each cabin was assigned a Grubby.  Her cabin's grubby was named Zoozie.  A grubby is a plastic tube that is tied around a large wood pole that had stuffed animals wrapped around it.  On the second day, they left their grubby at an event and their brother cabin (called Four Score) stole it.  And when somebody steals your grubby, you have to do a punishment that the other cabin choose for you.  Their punishment was to clean up their brother cabin's table at dinner.  On the third day, the girls stole the boy's grubby because they left it at breakfast.  The girls made them serve them dinner and breakfast and they had to clean up our table after us at breakfast too.

Julia made several friends:
1 - Presley Pogue - Her new favorite friend from camp and the girl that she exchanged friendship bracelets with.  They were in almost every picture together online so I knew she had made a new friend for sure.
2 - Megan - She was really nice and funny.
3 - Savannah - She's the same thing as Megan.
4 - Madison - She's just really nice.

All four of the girls go to the same school and happen to live in Dallas too.  Their moms had planned outfits for the night events that way they could be matching and have a lot of fun together.  The Night Events were special events where they did fun activities and could dress up.  Julia had a really sparkly pink sequin jumper for the first night - Crazy Night!  They were encouraged to wear wigs so Julia wore her unicorn wig that has long blue and purple hair with the jumper.  Crazy for sure!  Second night was safari night.  Julia dressed up in a cheetah patterned dress.  The third night was Girl's Night.  Julia wore a tank top that said something about being a strong girl.  The fourth night was superheroes - Julia wore a wonder woman t-shirt.  The fifth night was pop star night so Julia wore a cute yellow t-shirt.  Those were all the fun nights!

Each day you had different activities like the treehouse (Tree Top Towers - her favorite!), Torpedo (it is a fun ride that there's a boat in front of you and you sit on a little canoe thing and they kept doing the jerk where you're facing one way and they're facing the other.  They do a sharp turn!  It was in the water and she loved it.  One girl on the raft fell off, but Julia didn't and loved it), zip-line course (she gets to do those next year - she did one small one and it was really fun), three different pools (crazy pool, water slide pool, and the lake - kind of a pool yet not a pool).  Julia's favorite thing that she got to do was Tree Top Towers.  It is a huge contraption with lots of options for climbing, swinging, and just simply having fun.

When I picked Julia up from camp (since Jeremy was at a meeting with Riley for her upcoming trip to Costa Rica), I asked her if she definitely wants to do camp again, if she's like 'eh' about it, or if she doesn't want to do it again.  She said she definitely wants to do it again!  Riley's hoping to do it next year as well because she said it looked like so much fun from what she saw at just the drop-off portion.

Julia says it's really fun and if you go, I think you'd have a great time.  So check out Sky Ranch in Van, Texas!  It's awesome!
