Final Year of Single Digits
Today Julia turned nine! She's been counting down for weeks and waking up each morning to share with us how many days remained until her birthday. It started early with an 8am soccer game and she was fired up. First game of the season that hadn't been called off by rain. The rain did begin to come down several minutes into the game, but thankfully there was just a short break before the game resumed. Julia wanted to score a goal and had a few times where she had nice control of the ball heading toward the goal, but she naturally plays more defensively and is an excellent player in that area. She had many times where she defended well and was able to keep the ball from going further to the goal. Her team won 9-0... was a great way to start the day!
Her request for a birthday treat was a piece of chocolate cake with icing, a dollop of ice cream, and a small brownie on top. Riley and I went out last night to shop for her gift from Riley and purchased a cake and brownie mix. We made it when we were home and then all of us had a piece after lunch.
My parents called in to Facetime and watch her open their presents. My mom had made this super cute homemade card of a honey jar where the lid lifts up and says "You're so sweet" and a sweet message inside from them. The package they sent from Amazon was a spa kit - just up Julia's alley! With bath bombs, soaps, lotions, scrubs... perfect gift.
Both of the girls keep running lists of things they love and we used ideas from her list to buy her a curling iron, wireless headphones, a stapler, and the game Mastermind. Riley gave her a pick-me-pop (we got her a small one as well) and a Lego Cupcake cafe set. Julia loved all of it!
Tonight we're eating out at Julia's favorite restaurant (Season's 52) with Poppi, Grammy, and Madi. Thinking it's going to be an amazing full birthday day.
