A few days ago I took Riley out on a few errands while Jeremy and Julia hung out at home.  Sometimes the simplest trips are the best times to have one-on-one time.  Riley was happy to come along to Staples where I needed to pick up some items for my upcoming workshop at SMU.  She loves looking at school supplies and we found her a few book covers for fall as well.

While we were out, I thought about how she was wanting more books.  She truly can't get enough of them and has particularly enjoyed reading books in Spanish.  We have to find books that are not too easy, but not too wide in a vocabulary range.  She had already read her Spanish book that we purchased a few weeks ago.  We also got the first Harry Potter book in Spanish, but it is beyond where she is at right now.  No doubt she'll be able to read it at some point!  I asked her if she'd like to stop by Barnes and Noble to look at more books.  Her eyes grew wide and she was excited.

We browsed around the bookstore for a while.  I enjoyed hearing her thoughts and watching her choose which books she wanted to read.  She chose two new Spanish books and one graphic novel that she hadn't read yet (and which completes the series she has at home).  It was a lot of fun.  I love that she enjoys Spanish so much.  I also love how she enjoys reading and it's fun to hear her share her interests.

Today Julia came out of her bedroom wearing one of my favorite dresses - a red Tea Collection dress with white polka dots and a cute collar that folds down and has three red buttons along the shoulder.  She shared that she had dressed in my favorite dress because she wanted to go have one-on-one time with me just like Riley had done.  As we'd already done the 4th of July Parade and didn't have anything else planned for the afternoon, I asked her where she was thinking we'd go.  Her first answer was the mall, but I shared that we wouldn't be needing anything from there - she has plenty of clothing and jewelry.  We'd recently talked about how we needed a better organization system in her room as she has lots of dolls and legos and just stuff laying on the floor.  She has a great closet system, but two empty shelves.  We could use some bins to hold things on the floor and place them on the shelves.  She asked if we could go to the Container Store.

I love that Riley chooses bookstores and Julia chooses organization stores.  Very much describes their preferences.

Jeremy had a gift card with a nice balance on it so off we went.  She really likes the colors blue, green, and purple.  They had a good sale on their storage items so we found 3 blue bins and 2 mint bins.  Then went to Walmart to get 2 plastic bins to hold clothes passed down from friends and Riley.

She was ecstatic to come home and begin cleaning out her room.  We spent an hour and a half sorting items for bins, clothes to grow into and creating a "toss" pile.  We also created an area in the hall to store things that we can give to a local charity or to friends who have younger girls.

Not sure how long her room will remain this organized, but it made a huge difference!  Julia pretended to be a YouTuber and gave me a tour around her room.  She has an area to the side of her bed where blankets are folded in piles and she calls it her "Comfort Area."  Instead of laying in her bed to watch iPad videos, she lays on the floor in this secret area covered in blankets and rests her iPad on a small pillow.
