Planes, Buses and Altimas

We talked briefly before we got to NYC and decided that we’d rent a car and drive to Boston in the night.  This way we’d be there and not have any doubt about whether we’d make it or if the flight would really take off.  My dad called the airline to let them know NOT to cancel our flight out on the 15th.  So we’ll see how that goes when we get back to the airport.

There was an escalator going down to the rental car area.  I was pulling a suitcase with a backpack.  My mom had a suitcase.  Riley was walking with us.  My dad and Jeremy got on the escalator leaving us behind and yelled “Come on!  Get on it!”  But trying to get all the luggage and Riley on safely was not going to happen.  They were both annoyed that we didn’t try it.  Instead we found some stairs and my dad came up to help.  He was like “Riley could have gone on!  Come on.”  My mom and I just looked at each other and kept moving.

We found the rental car area.  The phones wouldn’t work right, the buttons didn’t press and then when they worked, the numbers were entered multiple times.  One car company said we’d have to call to get a car to come get us.  One place said it would cost $200 for the night for a car.  Finally my dad got ahold of Hertz.  We got on the shuttle bus, got to Hertz, got the Altima, piled in our luggage and were off to drive another four hours to get to Boston.

Once we crossed the bridge out of the city and found Highway 95, we were good to go.  There was tons of construction and blinking lights everywhere along the roads.  We drove through parts of New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts to get to Boston.  Boston had this amazing bridge that we crossed around 2am.  Riley didn’t have a booster seat and sat between my mom and I.  She lay down and fell asleep about 11pm.  She had loved the adventure, was a fabulous traveler and had been an amazing little girl the whole day long.

While we were driving, Jon called and I was able to give him the numbers of our checked luggage.  American Airlines allowed him to go to Boston Airport to pick it up so that we didn’t have to do that in the middle of the night or early in the morning.  My dad dropped off the rental car in the morning.  We slept for a few hours in the hotel.  Jeremy took one side of the bed, Riley had the middle and I had the other side.  It was difficult to go to sleep because there was this annoying bird that was chirping loudly all night.  Never known a bird to chirp all night.  Riley laughed a little, then told it to be quiet – to which we agreed!  Finally got to sleep. We woke up with Riley’s head on Jeremy’s legs and her legs on top of me.   In the morning, we met up with everyone from the wedding around 8:45am.  Loaded into large vans and headed to the dock.
